Zarghami steps down at Nickelodeon

Viacom is on the look-out for a new president of its children-focused Nickelodeon Group after incumbent Cyma Zarghami revealed she is stepping down after more than 30 years with the company.

Cyma Zarghami

Zarghami joined Nickelodeon in 1985 and was named president in 2006, overseeing its linear expansion and multi-platform programming, as well as film, live experiences and consumer products.

She will be replaced in the interim by Sarah Levy, chief operating officer of Viacom Media Networks, who will work with Nickelodeon’s leadership team to manage the brand’s operations.

Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom, said Zarghami’s “instincts for creating content and experiences that kids love have been vital to the brand’s success around the world.”

Bakish added: “Looking to the future, we are excited to build on this strong foundation as we continue to evolve the business and connect with young audiences in new and innovative ways.”

Nickelodeon currently has its largest-ever content pipeline with more than 800 new episodes in the works.

Zarghami is the latest senior exec to leave Viacom following Bakish’s arrival as president, since when he has narrowed the company’s focus to six core brands.

Debra Lee stepped down as chairman and CEO at BET Networks last month having given up day-to-day responsibilities in late 2017.
