YouTube teams with best of beauty

YouTube Originals has joined forces with online beauty mogul James Charles to create a new beauty competition series that will launch on the platform next year.

The four-part competition series will see contestants put their makeup artistry on display for Charles and a number of guest judges in the hope of becoming the industry’s next beauty influencer.

The series, currently untitled, will be produced by Vancouver-based Brain Garden Media, with episodes airing online weekly. Charles has more than 16 million subscribers to his YouTube channel and is known for his creative makeup transformations.

Susanne Daniels, global head of original content for YouTube, said: “James Charles is a leader in the industry when it comes to pushing boundaries with creative content. We are thrilled that James is bringing his energy and talent to our YouTube Originals slate with our first beauty competition series.”

The series is the latest in a number of personality-driven YouTube Originals including Kevin Hart’s What the Fit, and Paris Hilton’s forthcoming 2020 docuseries.
