YouTube scales Finnish climbing format

YouTube has ordered a Finnish adventure competition series for its pay service in which web celebrities will be challenged to climb Mount Tocllaraju in Peru.

Ultimate Expedition will be produced by Rabbit Films and presented by the president of the Helsinki-based prodco’s US arm, Jukka Hildén, who has previously fronted programming such as stunt show The Dudesons.

The 10-episode series will debut exclusively on YouTube Red, the Google-owned video-sharing platform’s subscription service that is currently available in the US, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and South Korea.

It will see eight YouTube stars with no previous climbing experience take on the challenge of scaling Mount Tocllaraju in Peru, which is 19,790 feet tall.

The format first appeared on MTV3 Finland in March 2016 and was produced by Rabbit Films.

“Viewers love to see their favourite YouTube stars in unique settings, and Ultimate Expedition will stretch the cast far beyond their comfort zones in new and unexpected ways,” said Susanne Daniels, global head of original content at YouTube.

“The audience will get to experience the climb by not only watching the series, but through the personal journeys each star will share on their YouTube channel, keeping fans connected each gruelling step of the way.”
