YouTube channel gives Grandpa a home

A fledgling YouTube channel will become the exclusive UK home to preschool series Grandpa in My Pocket, which previously aired on CBeebies.

Bogglesox TV is owned by writer/producer Mellie Buse and producer/director Martin Franks and has a growing slate of original and third-party content, including Grandpa in My Pocket.

It is also offering full episodes of Turner’s preschool series Ha Ha Hairies, which airs on Cartoonito, on a non-exclusive basis.

Buse co-founded Grandpa in My Pocket producer Adastra Creative alongside Jan Page in 2005 and also set up Adastra Development with Franks in 2013.

The channel is also home to original stop-frame series Bitziboos, which features puppets created by MacKinnon & Saunders; My Magic Theatre; classic BBC show Spider in the Bath; and Magic Pencil, from Keyframe Studios.

Aimed at children aged under 8, Bogglesox TV grew out of a training scheme from UK government organisation Creative Skillset and was originally established to showcase trainees’ projects.

The past six months have seen major growth in Bogglesox TV’s following to half-a-million views per day, with views rising from 200,000 to 3.2 million a month.

In the past month Bogglesox TV claims to have had 500,000 hours of watched content, an increase of 400% on the previous month.

The channel is run by business graduate Oli Ridgeon, who joined the team as a Skillset trainee in 2015.

“The original aim of Bogglesox was to produce niche, experimental content, largely created by the Skillset trainees, but it has become apparent in recent months that there is a huge appetite for both our original and third-party programming,” said Buse.
