Youku takes Taboo, kids’ shows

Tom Hardy’s Taboo will be available on Youku from this month

Chinese streamer Youku has picked up Tom Hardy period drama Taboo and children’s properties The Moe Show and Pop Up from UK-China production, distribution and financing firm The Media Pioneers.

Alibaba-owned Youku will air Taboo from this month, while the kids’ shows will land on the platform at the end of the year.

Produced by Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker, eight-part drama Taboo aired on BBC1 in the UK and FX in the US in 2017. Set in 1814, it follows a man who was thought to have died in Africa years before as he returns to London for the reading of his father’s will.

The Moe Show (104×11’) and Pop Up (42×3’) are produced by New Zealand-based kids’ specialist prodco Pop Up Workshop. The former combines puppetry, animation and live-action to bring a relatable and magical world to Kiwi preschoolers and their parents.
