Youku picks up BBCS kids content

Preschool show Bluey

MIPCOM: Alibaba Group-owned Chinese OTT platform Youku has picked up a volume package of children’s shows from BBC Studios.

The agreement, spanning over 100 hours of preschool CBeebies content, includes Bluey and Yakka Dee.

Bluey is an Australian toon series about a puppy and is produced by Brisbane-based Ludo Studio for ABC in Australia and BBC Studios. It has been dubbed into Chinese and will premiere on Youku on October 15.

Yakka Dee, a show mixing animation and live-action and which encourages children to develop spoken language, comes from BBC Studios and King Banana.

The deal was signed between Henrietta Hurford-Jones, director of children’s content at BBC Studios, and Aaron Liao, general manager of Youku Kids.

A separate agreement at Mipcom today saw Youku Kids board animated series Stan Lee’s Superhero Kindergarten, from US-based kids producer and distributor Genius Brands International, as a coproducer.
