Yellow Bird UK hears Spotify story

Banijay Group-owned Yellow Bird UK has optioned the screen rights to the origin story of popular music streaming service Spotify.

Written by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud, Spotify Untold (Spotify Inifrån) tells the tale of the secretive Swedish start-up that evolved into Spotify.

The novel is currently being adapted as a limited scripted series, which will examine how the start-up wooed record companies, shook the music industry to its core with its subscription model and conquered Wall Street.

The show will be developed and produced by Yellow Bird UK, with Berna Levin serving as executive producer and Luke Franklin as producer. Carlsson and Leijonhufvud will consult on the project, the rights to which were acquired in a deal with Eleonoora Kirk at Bonnier Rights.

Levin said: “Spotify Untold is the ultimate tale of achieving the impossible and unimaginable. A modern-day David vs. Goliath set in the dynamic arena of the music industry, this is the true story of youth challenging the establishment. With reality trumping fiction at every turn, we will explore one of the greatest and most surprising technological advancements of our time.”
