Woodcut, Forces TV go to war with Royals

The Prince of Wales in Royals on the Frontline

UK prodco Woodcut TV has teamed up with the production arm of military broadcaster Forces TV on a three-part documentary about members of the UK royal family who have served in armed combat.

Royals on the Frontline, which is currently in production, will explore the active military participation of royals from the Second World War up to the modern day, such as Prince Harry’s evacuation from the front line when his position was compromised by the press, Prince Philip’s Royal Navy involvement and the Queen’s rebellion against her father when she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

The show will air on UKTV’s Yesterday network in 2019 after the multichannel broadcaster pre-invested in the series. Red Arrow Studios International has the international distribution rights and will launch the documentary at Mipcom later this month under its international title, Windsors at War.

Kate Beal, CEO, and Adam Jacobs will exec produce for Woodcut Media alongside Mark Popescu, director of factual at Forces TV. Woodcut’s Jonathan Mayo is series producer. Daniel Thomas, UKTV’s acquisitions manager, brokered the deal for the broadcaster.
