Wildseed launches new studio

MIPJUNIOR: UK-based IP incubator Wildseed has launched a new digital studio to develop feature-length productions with the support of Pinewood Studios.

Wildseed Movies will develop and produce a series of what Wildseed calls “microbuster” genre feature films that will be distributed direct to consumers online as well as on SVoD platforms.

Financing will come in part from Pinewood Studios, where the James Bond feature films are made and which is keen to “nurture fresh new talent on innovative platforms,” Wildseed said.

The first project to come out of Wildseed Movies is British sci-fi horror The Darkest Dawn, a sequel to another Wildseed project titled Hungerford. It follows two teenage sisters and their fight to survive an alien apocalypse.

Featuring a number of actors with large followings on YouTube, including Bethan Leadley, Cherry Wallis and Stuart Ashen, it is produced by Wildseed Studios founders Jesse Cleverly and Miles Bullough. It will be released on October 31.

Earlier this year YouTube business Fullscreen acquired a trio of projects, including Hungerford, from Wildseed Studios for its fledgling ad-free SVoD service for teenagers and young adults.

Wildseed was set up by Aardman Animations exec Miles Bullough and BBC alumnus Jesse Cleverly in 2013 to nurture new talent online.
