Wildflame buys Green Bay

Wildflame Productions, the prodco set up by Australia’s Flame Group in Wales two years ago, is to acquire fellow Cardiff-based production company Green Bay Media.

The deal, financial details of which were not disclosed, comes as Wildflame prepares to move into new premises in Cardiff and deliver several productions to broadcasters.

Wildflame was set up in 2016 by Flame Group chairman and CEO John Caldon and Wales-based television executive Paul Islwyn Thomas, the former head of arts at BBC Wales and co-founder of Indus Films.

Green Bay Media, meanwhile, was founded in 2001 by Phil George and John Geraint and has grown to become one of Wales’ best-known factual producers.

The firm has been behind blue-chip documentaries such as The Roman Invasion of Britain, Shakespeare: The King’s Man and The Story of Wales and has worked with broadcasters such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, S4C, History Channel, National Geographic and France Télévisions.

“Green Bay was one of the first Welsh-based factual indies to become recognised across the world and we look forward to building on that success. This exciting relationship will showcase the very best Welsh talent and open up new partnerships with broadcasters in the UK and commissioners internationally,” said Islwyn Thomas, Wildflame’s CEO.
