Wattpad plucks from Super Deluxe

The TV and film unit of Toronto-headquartered web storytelling platform Wattpad has hired a producing consultant from entertainment company Super Deluxe as director of content development and production.

Lindsey Ramey

Lindsey Ramey joins Wattpad Studios’ content development and production team in LA and will work with local entertainment studios, producers and writers to turn Wattpad stories into film, TV and digital media projects. She reports to Eric Lehrman, head of content development and production.

Ramey joins from Turner-owned multiplatform entertainment company Super Deluxe, where she worked on Sundance Now original series This Close and Fullscreen original Magic Funhouse. She has previously served as a VP at Heyday Films and Hypnotic, where she oversaw development of feature film slates.

Ramey arrives at a time of increased expansion for Wattpad Studios, which partners with the entertainment industry to coproduce Wattpad stories for TV, film, digital video and print. In April, Wattpad’s global footprint extended to Asia through the appointment of Dexter Ong to oversee operations in the region.

Last month Sony Pictures Television picked up the TV rights to Wattpad horror-romance hit Death is My BFF, followed swiftly by streamer Hulu’s straight-to-series order for supernatural thriller Light as a Feather.

Wattpad also counts NBCUniversal-owned prodco Universal Cable Productions, AwesomenessTV and CW Seed as partners, and is looking to grow that roster further, according to its head, Aron Levitz.

“We’re growing in the hub of the entertainment industry because our data-driven approach to development and decision-making resonates with TV, film and digital media companies in LA and around the world,” Levitz said.
