Watcha picks up Possessions, War

Nadia Tereszkiewicz stars in Possessions

South Korean OTT service Watcha has acquired a package of mixed-language drama from France-based distributor StudioCanal.

The deal, which was brokered by StudioCanal senior sales manager Sarah Mottershead, includes two Canal+ Creation Originale series, Possessions and War of the Worlds.

From the director of hit series Bodyguard, Possessions is a new psychological thriller coproduced for Canal+ France and Yes Israel. The series stars Nadia Tereszkiewicz and was recently acquired by HBO Max, which will launch it this month. It features a mixture of French, Hebrew and English languages.

War of the Worlds, which has been picked up by several international platforms and broadcasters, debuted last October and is currently in production on a second season, which will launch next year. Produced by Urban Myth Films, it stars Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects) and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and is in French and English.

Watcha has also previously licensed StudioCanal-distributed drama Years & Years, which premiered in South Korea earlier this year. Written by Russell T Davies and starring Emma Thompson (Saving Mr Banks), the series became the first to launch under the OTT service’s new Watcha Exclusive brand for flagship dramas in the territory.
