Warner Bros teams with DuVernay

CONTENT LONDON: Warner Bros Television Group (WBTVG) has signed an overall deal with Oscar-nominated writer, producer and director Ava DuVernay.

Ava DuVernay

The multi-year development and production pact with DuVernay and her Forward Movement production shingle takes effect in January and is her first overall deal with any studio.

DuVernay will now develop television projects including drama and comedy series, longform/event series, documentaries and potential digital content.

The projects will be for all platforms, including broadcast networks, premium/pay and basic cable channels, and streaming/on-demand platforms.

WBTVG previously worked with DuVernay on drama series Queen Sugar for Discovery-owned network OWN through Warner Horizon Scripted Television and The Red Line for CBS through Warner Bros Television.

Forward Movement will produce her new series in association with Warner Bros Television, Warner Horizon Scripted Television or the Television Group’s digital studio, Blue Ribbon Content.

Warner Bros International Television Distribution will distribute the shows around the world.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The announcement was made today by Peter Roth, Warner Bros Television Group president and chief content officer.
