War drama copro creates a stir

MIPCOM: A German TV movie set in a concentration camp has sparked international interest at Mipcom.

The upcoming Naked Among Wolves (110’), distributed by Global Screen, has generated interest from buyers in Spain, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, Benelux, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, said the company.

Set in Buchenwald concentration camp just before Hitler’s downfall, the drama is adapted from the book by East German author Bruno Apitz.

It is directed by Philipp Kadelbach and produced by Nico Hofmann, Benjamin Benedict and Sebastian Werninger, the same team behind multi-award-winning hit Generation War (Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter).

The drama is coproduced by Ufa Fiction with MDR, ARD Degeto, WDR, SWR and BR, and will be delivered in early 2015.

A second new drama reported to be attracting interest from buyers across Europe and Asia is historical event action movie Iron Fist. Coproduced by UFA Fiction and Mia Film for RTL, the drama will be available at the end of this month.

Continuing the war theme, Global Screen has sold a documentary package including Nazi war crimes doc The Auschwitz Trial to Poland’s Planet+. Italian, French and Eastern European broadcasters have also expressed interest in the doc.

The distributor has also reported strong sales for established drama titles such as action cop series Alarm For Cobra. Season 11 has just been sold to Thailand for the first time.

Meanwhile, romantic soap Storm of Love, which has reached its 2,000th episode, has been picked up by Polish VoD channel player.pl.
