Wachtel leaves NBCU Int’l Studios

Jeff Wachtel, president of NBCUniversal (NBCU) International Studios in London, has left the company after almost two decades.

Wachtel’s exit was prompted by discussions regarding respect in the workplace following internal complaints about the exec’s management style, according to reports. The news was broken by Deadline.

Wachtel oversaw all aspects of television development, production, international formats and strategic content partnerships for NBCU International Studios and its portfolio of companies, which include Downton Abbey creator Carnival Films.

The exec also oversaw the group’s LA- and UK-based scripted unit, which makes Hanna for Amazon Prime Video, and its international formats business, which licenses and produces content in more than 70 territories worldwide.

Wachtel joined NBCU International Studios in the UK from NBCU Cable Entertainment in the US, where he was chief content officer.

Prior to this, Wachtel was co-president of USA Network for over a decade, responsible for original programming. He joined the network in 2001 from Alliance Atlantis Television, where he was president.

Wachtel’s exit comes after Meredith Ahr, president of NBC Entertainment’s alternative and reality group, left the company this month following a separate investigation into what was described as a ‘toxic’ workplace culture.
