Waï TV ramps up format production

In France, production company Waï TV is taking a new entertainment format into production for Gallic broadcaster France2, after scoring a hit for the net with a driving quiz format last month.

France2 will be airing TV From A-to-Z, a (10×80') studio-based quizshow about the history of television, this summer.

Waï TV has recently been building its profile in the formats market. In February, Waï's interactive driving quiz Le Grand Examen (The Big Test) captured a 44.4% audience share for France2 in a primetime slot. By comparison, the same slot achieved a 24.7% share in 2002.

German, Belgian and Australian producers are now in negotiation to secure licences for Le Grand Examen. Based on the show's rating power, France2 has now ordered a new episode of the driving format for later this year.

Since launching three years ago, Waï TV has created a stock of 40 formats. Apart from TV From A to Z and Le Grand Examen, three other shows have made it to the small screen in France.

For the past three years, Waï TV has been producing Le Printemps des Poètes (Springtime for Poets) for major French broadcasters including TF1, France2, France3 and La Cinquième. Combining 3D animation and appearances by French stars, the yearly show presents short poetry readings in March.

In addition to football quiz show Ça Joue Ce Soir (The Game Tonight), Waï also produced an interactive quiz show about cult television shows to celebrate digital platform TPS reaching 1m subscribers.

{Our first goal was to create formats. The next step is to start selling them,{ said Childéric Muller, co-founder of Waï TV.
