Volcano docs erupt on to Smithsonian

Volcanoes: Dual Destruction includes home footage

US factual cablenet Smithsonian Channel is set to air two new documentaries on the destructive power of volcanoes.

Volcanoes: Dual Destruction looks at the eruption of two Guatemalan volcanoes, Kilauea and Fuego. The documentary will include home footage taken on the ground during the eruptions.

Emporium Productions’ Emma Read and Mark Strickson are producing the documentary for Smithsonian Networks, with Charles Poe and David Royle serving as executive producers for the Smithsonian Channel.

Islands of Fire is an hour-long documentary exploring the mid-Atlantic ridge, a 6,000-mile chain of volcanoes that make up the longest mountain range in the world.

The documentary is produced by Carl Hall of Warehouse 51 Productions. Joy Galane and David Royle are exec producing for Smithsonian Channel.

Volcanoes: Dual Destruction premieres on September 8 and Islands of Fire will premiere on September 15 on the Smithsonian Channel.
