Viu prepares for The Outbreak

The Outbreak (aka Épidémie) debuted on TVA last year

Asian streaming service Viu has picked up a French-language medical drama that unwittingly foreshadowed the Covid-19 pandemic for its Middle East feeds.

The deal for The Outbreak is Viu’s first with Paris-based content producer and distributor Oble.

The Outbreak was originally titled Épidémie and broadcast on TVA in French-speaking Canada in January 2020. Its plot centres on the spread of a respiratory disease around Montreal.

Since Oble secured distribution rights to The Outbreak, the show has been sold to outlets including Start in Russia and TV2 in Hungary. So far, it has been licensed in 20 countries.
