Virgin raises Starz’s Dead

Ash vs Evil Dead has already been given another run on Starz

Ash vs Evil Dead has already been given another run on Starz

Virgin Media has secured the exclusive UK rights to Starz original series Ash vs Evil Dead for its on-demand service.

The rights for the original series have been picked up from Starz Digital, the global, digital and on-demand licensing arm of US cablenet Starz. It will be available on demand exclusively to Virgin Media subscribers.

The adaptation of the classic Evil Dead movies reunites the original filmmakers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert with star Bruce Campbell, while Craig DiGregorio is executive producer and showrunner. Starz recently greenlit the show for a second season.

The series sees Campbell reprise his role as Ash, who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the ‘deadites.’

The first five episodes are available in the UK from today, and one episode will be released per week thereafter in line with the US premieres.

David Bouchier, chief digital entertainment officer at Virgin Media, said the deal marked a “step change in our TV programming strategy and demonstrates the true potential for video on demand.”
