Virgin Media TV calls for drama ideas

Virgin Media Television (fka TV3 Group) in Ireland is calling for scripts for its ongoing Drama Initiative.

The broadcasting group is seeking ideas for a new post-watershed 6×60’ drama to air in 2019/20.

Entrants are being asked to “explore contemporary themes, new and exciting visual styles and narratives focusing on original, noisy ideas with a view to potentially returnable, ‘brand-defining’ series.”

A mix of established and new production techniques and talent is also encouraged along with international themes aimed at a global audience.

The budget is to be made up of local funding, grant initiatives and international partners in addition to initial investment from Virgin. The deadline for submissions to the Drama Initiative is Friday August 31, 2018.

Applications can be entered through Virgin’s commissioning portal.

The group is made up of three free-to-air channels, TV3, 3e and be3, which are being changed to Virgin Media 1, Virgin Media 2 and Virgin Media 3 as part of a rebrand. Its on-demand platform will now be titled Virgin Media Player.

A new sports channel, Virgin Media Sport, exclusively for Virgin Media customers, will also launch as part of the changes. The rebrand will come into effect on August 30.
