Vice expands reach through mobile

Vice has agreed a slate of partnerships to bring its original programming to mobile platforms around the world.

The firm will create original local content specifically for young people in Indonesia and Australia that will be carried on XL Axiata and iflix in the former and Vodafone in the latter.

It comes after Vice launched what it dubbed a “full-scale operation” in Indonesia last year to focus on original content.

Meanwhile, the youth media brand is going direct to consumer in Japan with its subscription VoD service Vice+ after partnering with local mobile operator Docomo Digital last year.

Vice has also agreed deals with AbemaTV and Verizon that will see its content licensed across Japan and the US.

Additionally, it has extended its partnership with Fido in Canada and reached a new agreement with Partner Communications in Israel that will allow each provider’s subscribers to access the full slate of programming from its fledgling TV channel Viceland through a Vice app.

Following these deals, Vice said its programming will be delivered to more than 80 territories by the end of 2017. More deals are expected in the coming months.
