Vice, ESPN score production deal

Vice Media and Disney-owned sports network ESPN have agreed a production and distribution deal that includes two new shortform series.

The agreement will see select films from ESPN’s documentary series 30 for 30 air on youth media giant Vice’s fledgling cable network Viceland in the US.

Meanwhile, Vice Sports will produce an exclusive as-yet-untitled shortform series for ESPN, and will also distribute new episodes of its other series on ESPN’s TV channels and digital services.

Additionally, Vice and ESPN are developing a shortform animated series, details of which have not been disclosed.

The two companies share a stakeholder in the form of Disney, which took 10% of Vice Media by investing a further US$200m in the company last year.
