CONTENT STRATEGIES: Uncovering programming opportunities worldwide

Vibrant hunts titles for launch

MIPTV: Zephyr Media is pressing ahead with programme acquisition for its planned new US network Vibrant TV but has yet to confirm an official launch date.

Chicago-based Zephyr wants to showcase foreign programmes from all genres on a new channel and is looking to acquire content. Programming consultant Linda Khan is leading the network’s acquisitions strategy and told C21 in Cannes today the plan was to launch the channel at the end of this year or the beginning of 2013.

Khan said: “We’re looking at all genres: drama, comedy, action adventure, lifestyle, reality, formats, maybe some sports, kids. It’s general entertainment.

“We’re an English-language network but some content will be subtitled and dubbed; there are so many great shows, particularly dramas, with subtitles. American audiences are not particularly used to subtitles but when a programme is good you’re so immersed in it you don’t notice.

“We want to talk to distributors with big catalogues and a lot to choose from. We want to speak to everybody with shows they want to get into the US; this is a real opportunity to do that for both indies and distribution companies attached to networks.”
