Viaplay TV heads to Finland

Sweden-based entertainment giant Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) has launched its streaming channels service Viaplay TV in Finland.

Finnish subscribers to SVoD platform Viaplay can now access 15 channels through the service alongside existing content.

Audiences will be able to watch Finnish pubcaster YLE’s networks TV1, TV2 and Teema & Fem, Bonnier Broadcasting’s MTV3, TV5, Kutonen, TLC, Fox, National Geographic, Discovery, MTV and Eurosport 1, among others, for an extra €5 (US$5.76) a month.

Anders Jensen, NENT’s president and CEO, said: “We were the first in the Nordic region to launch a full streaming service, then the first to add linear TV channels, and now we’re meeting viewers’ demands in Finland for an even more comprehensive service that seamlessly integrates streaming and channel offerings.”

Viaplay is one of the leading streaming services in the region, with the company revealing data earlier this year that showed customers spend an average of 32 hours a month viewing its content – a 25% increase between 2016 and 2017.

The platform offer already offers a range of films, series and sports and last week C21 was first to report it had boarded the planned reimagining of Sherlock Holmes, titled Sherlock North.
