Viaplay hopes to conquer with Casper

Nordic streamer Viaplay has ordered an eight-part mockumentary about a Danish comedian who has to move to Norway after offending too many people in his homeland.

Casper Conquers Norway (Danish: Casper Erobrer Norge; Norwegian: Unnskyld Norge) is produced by Copenhagen-based prodco The Bunch and will feature Casper Christensen as he travels north amid controversy.

The show will premiere in autumn 2019 across the Nordic region exclusively on Viaplay, which is operated by Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group).

Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, NENT Group’s exec VP and head of content, described the show as “an ideal format for this vibrant talent who blends anarchy, embarrassment and hilarity like nobody else in Denmark (or Norway).”

It’s the latest original from Viaplay, which is preparing around 20 originals annually.

Other shows in production include Honour (known locally as Heder) from Sweden’s Bigster, while the streamer has already enjoyed success with series including Veni Vidi Vici, which premiered on Hulu in the US, and Swedish Dicks, which was sold to US cablenet Pop TV.

Last week NENT Group appointed Discovery Networks Sweden’s Jon Petersson as its head of scripted at Viaplay, replacing Mikael Newihl.
