Viaplay calls in The Ambassador

Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) has ordered a 10-part drama about an arms deal from the producers behind Swedish Dicks that will be filmed in three different languages.

The Ambassador, from Brain Academy and Patrik Ehrnst (Swedish Dicks), is set behind the apparently respectable façade of a Nordic embassy in Mexico City where a lucrative arms deal is in the making.

It will be the first NENT Group original to be filmed in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, and will premiere in 2020 exclusively on NENT’s Viaplay streaming service across the Nordic region.

Filming of the Swedish version, titled Ambassadören, which stars comedian Mikael Tornving, is already underway with the Danish and Norwegian versions set to go into production soon.

Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, NENT Group’s head of content, described the show as “local storytelling with boundless ambition – one super-sharp script made even more relevant by three tones and textures.”

The show joins Viaplay’s other originals which include forthcoming eight-part crime thriller Honour from Sweden, about a scandal hidden by the country’s top lawyers; Veni Vidi Vici, which premiered on Hulu in the US; and Swedish Dicks, which was sold to local cablenet Pop TV.
