Viacom18 meets BBCWW’s Stupid Man

Stupid Man, Smart Phone was ordered for BBC3

Indian network Viacom18 Media has ordered a local version of BBC Worldwide (BBCWW)’s factual entertainment format Stupid Man, Smart Phone.

The show will be produced by BBC Worldwide India and has been slated to premiere today on Viacom18’s VoD service VOOT, which claims to reach more than 40 million users in India. Each episode of the nine-part first season is between 15 and 20 minutes long.

Stupid Man, Smart Phone features a city-dwelling comedian attempting some of the world’s toughest outdoor adventures with a mobile phone as their only survival tool.

The format was created for BBC3 in the UK by local prodco Kalel Productions and Second Star, part of Objective Media Group. Only one season was ordered by the online channel but the show has since been adapted by TV2 Zulu in Denmark.

Gaurav Gandhi, chief operating officer at Viacom18 Digital Ventures, said the show would “offer a completely differentiated and engaging experience to our audience.”
