Carol Polakoff’s Viewfinder Pictures and Lane Shefter Bishop’s Vast Entertainment have taken TV rights to autobiography The Devil’s Defender: My Odyssey Through American Criminal Justice from Ted Bundy to the Kandahar Massacre.

The book was published earlier this year and is being developed with an eye for a premium cable network or streaming service, according to the producers. The first season is planned to comprise 10 to 13 episodes.

Henry Browne’s career has been built on defending the defenceless, be they serial killer and rapist Bundy to Robert Bales, the former US Army soldier who murdered 16 Afghan civilians in 2012.

The deal for the rights was brokered by Frank Weimann of Folio Literary on behalf of the author and by Lane Shefter Bishop on behalf of Viewfinder Pictures and Vast Entertainment.

“John Henry Brown is a most fascinating and complicated hero- from playing rock and roll and opening for Hendrix, his story takes us from reforming the prison system to defending angels and devils against the death penalty and justice system,” said Polakoff.

Viewfinder Pictures was created in 2014 by Polakoff, bringing a slate of feature and television projects from New York and Paris-based Carol Polakoff Productions. It is also working on The Iron King with US cablenet FX.

Vast Entertainment produced the TV movie The Choking Game for Lifetime Network and is working on the TV series including Stranger, alongside Donner Co and Fremantle.
