USA gains Biggest Loser reboot

The Biggest Loser ran for 17 seasons on NBC until 2016

USA Network is to reboot weight-loss format The Biggest Loser, which debuted in the US in 2004.

The 10-episode season is being produced by Endemol Shine North America in association with Universal Television Alternative Studio and is expected to air on USA Network in 2020.

The show previously aired on USA sibling NBC, where it ran for 17 seasons until 2016. It follows overweight contestants working with experts to shed pounds in a series of weekly challenges.

The format, which has been remade around the world including on ITV in the UK, was created by David Broome. Sharon Levy, DJ Nurre and Georgie Hurford-Jones serve as executive producers on the USA version, along with Todd Nelson, JD Roth and Broome.

Chris McCumber, president of entertainment networks at USA Network and Syfy, said Biggest Loser’s pick-up followed the success of Banijay Group’s Temptation Island and would provide “a new holistic, 360º look at wellness while retaining the franchise’s competition format and legendary jaw-dropping moments.”

“USA’s recent reboot of Temptation Island brought both new and younger viewers to the network, and we’re excited to add another big, buzzy show to our growing unscripted line-up,” he said.
