The Returned will launch on the California-based streamer on March 10 in all regions outside the US and Canada. Episodes will be made available weekly to members within 24 hours of the US broadcast, which begins on March 9.

Exec produced by Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Raelle Tucker (True Blood), the series will be available on Netflix in the US and Canada next year.

The drama is set in a small mountain town in Washington, where residents’ deceased loved ones start returning from the grave.

FMI CEO Jens Richter said: “Netflix is a ground-breaking platform, synonymous with high-quality, character-driven content that really pushes at the boundaries. The internet television network is the perfect home for The Returned.”

The Returned is based on the popular French suspense series Les Revenants (The Returned), created by Fabrice Gobert. It is produced by FremantleMedia North America in association with Haut et Court TV SAS, the producer of the French series. Exec producers are Cuse for Carlton Cuse Productions, Tucker for Angry Annie Productions and Thom Beers, Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk for FremantleMedia North America.

In related news, Netflix has signed a first-look deal with Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio following their recent partnership on Oscar-nominated nature doc Virunga.

The Wolf of Wall Street star will be the producer or exec producer for all the films and documentary series generated under the deal. The shows will centre on environmental and conservational themes.
