Universal Kids takes Next Step

Boat Rocker’s The Next Step is a single-camera tween drama about elite dancers

US network Universal Kids has acquired linear rights to popular tween series The Next Step from Boat Rocker Rights and BBC Worldwide (BBCWW).

The deal covers the first five seasons (154×30’) of the global hit and will see Universal Kids team up with Canadian distributor and producer Boat Rocker on the production of the sixth season (26×30′).

The Next Step, a single-camera, half-hour tween drama following the lives of a group of elite dancers, is broadcast in more than 120 countries.

The show is produced by Radical Sheep Productions, a division of Boat Rocker Studios, and is executive produced by Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier (Lost & Found Music Studios, Wingin’ It) and Michelle Melanson Cuperus (The Bagel and Becky Show, Fangbone!).

Season six will introduce fans to a talented new group of young dancers in addition to returning fan favourites from previous seasons. Boat Rocker will now distribute the series worldwide, starting with season six.

The Next Step is produced with the participation of Canada-based Shaw Rocket Fund, Canada Media Fund and BBCWW. It will air Monday-Saturday at 21.00ET on Super, debuting on September 9.
