UKTV sounds Horne for musical comedy

Comedy troupe The Horne Section has performed with numerous big names

UKTV has commissioned UK prodco Avalon to make a one-off special from comedian Alex Horne for its comedy network Dave.

The Horne Section, which will be recorded live at the London Palladium for broadcast later this year, will feature a jazz band led by Horne and guest performances from leading comedians and musicians.

Chris Little will produce the special, with Horne, Richard Allen-Turner, James Taylor and joint MD Jon Thoday exec producing for Avalon. The Horne Section was commissioned for Dave by Richard Watsham and Hilary Rosen, director and deputy director of commissioning at UKTV respectively.

The Horne Section fronted by Horne whose five-piece band has already performed with major names in music and comedy such as Tim Minchin, John Oliver, Reggie Watts, Felix Buxton (Basement Jaxx) and Suggs (Madness).

“I’m pretty sure no-one’s ever tried combining music with comedy before, let alone filming the whole thing and putting it on TV, so we’re pretty excited to see how Twitter will cope with jazz and jokes for two hours,” Horne said.

Horne’s hit comedy gameshow Taskmaster was renewed recently for a further four seasons by UKTV.
