UKTV preps original comedy for Gold

Multichannel operator UKTV has commissioned an original comedy show called Sandylands for its comedy channel, Gold.

The 3×40’ series follows a woman back to her quiet seaside hometown of Sandylands, following the mysterious disappearance of her father. She finds herself handling her father’s affairs while learning more about the town she had left behind and its odd inhabitants.

Sandylands is written by Martin Collins and Alex Finch and directed by Michael Cumming (Toast of London). King Bert Productions is producing the series, with Rosemary McGowan as producer, and Jo Sargent as executive producer.

The cast includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (Unforgotten), David Walliams (The Midnight Gang), Sophie Thompson (Detectorists), Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty), Simon Bird (Friday Night Dinner) and Natalie Dew (West End’s Bend It Like Beckham).

Gold’s line-up of originals already includes Dad’s Army: The Lost Episodes, Dial M for Middlesbrough and The Cockfields. Sandylands will air on the channel next year.
