UKTV goes under the knife

Hilary Rosen

Multichannel operator UKTV is expanding its Inside The… observational documentary franchise to include a hospital’s operating theatre.

The UK-based cabsat broadcaster has greenlit Inside The Operating Theatre (20×60’) from London indie Brown Bob Productions to air on its W channel.

Brown Bob has previously produced fixed-rig docs Inside the Ambulance and Inside the Vets for W and will now take its cameras inside the day surgery unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, Norfolk.

The series will premiere next year and show how a dedicated team of 75 working across four operating theatres are able to carry out a huge variety of procedures and enable patients to be in and out of hospital in one day. It was commissioned by UKTV’s deputy director of commissioning and head of factual and factual entertainment Hilary Rosen.

The show joins a growing list of UKTV originals coming to W, including Emma Willis: Delivering Babies; Cherry Healey documentary Sex, Knives & Liposuction; Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over; Dr Christian: 12 Hours to Cure Your Street; and two new scripted series – Women on the Verge and Flack.
