UK’s All 4 puts on Scrubs

L-R: Sarah Chalke, Zach Braff and Donald Faison in Scrubs

UK broadcaster Channel 4’s AVoD platform All 4 has picked up classic medical sitcom Scrubs from The Walt Disney Company.

Scrubs follows the life of intern JD (Zach Braff) as he starts his medical career at a local hospital, which is full of eccentric staff and patients. His experiences and encounters with the people around him teach him about the profession, friendship and life.

All 4 has picked up the show in its entirety, which comprises 182 episodes spread across nine seasons. Scrubs will become available on the platform from May 1.

The series originally premiered on NBC in 2001 before later switching to ABC and stars Braff alongside Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison and Judy Reyes. C4 originally broadcast the show in the UK.

Nick Lee, head of series acquisitions at C4, said: “It’s very exciting that we get to revive a past gem of Channel 4’s programming as Scrubs in its entirety on All 4. It will be the first time all nine seasons have been available on All 4, so we can’t wait to relive some of the show’s best moments and have the theme tune I’m No Superman going through our heads for the next few months.”

The acquisition of Scrubs comes shortly after the platform acquired classic US sitcom Seinfeld earlier this year, and follows a recent trend for streaming service stocking up on sitcom libraries.

HBO Max will launch in May with the back catalogues of Friends and The Big Bang Theory, while Netflix paid a reported US$500m for the Seinfeld catalogue having enjoyed success with Friends prior to WarnerMedia clawing the title back.
