UK net spreads Jelly Jamm

A UK broadcaster has snapped up Spanish toon Jelly Jamm (52×11′), which premieres on Turner Broadcasting System’s (TBS) expanded Cartoonito channel this fall.

Milkshake!, Channel 5’s children’s programming block, has acquired the preschool show, which comes from Spanish indies Vodka Capital, 737 Shaker, pubcaster RTVE and toyco Bandai.

The multi-platform show follows five friends who live on a magical planet, where all the music in the universe originates. C5’s commissioning editor for children Jessica Symons said the “vibrancy, comedy and music” would resonant with Milkshake’s preschool audience.

“As independent producers, it’s always very challenging to gain the support of important European broadcasters for shows that have not proved themselves in the market. We are extremely fortunate in having Milkshake! as a key partner in the UK,” added Vodka Capital’s managing partner Steven Posner.

He said Jelly Jamm had been “gaining traction globally”. The series is a key component of TBS’s EMEA-wide launch of its Cartoonito channel and Discovery Kids has grabbed pay-TV rights for Latin America.
