UK dating show woos NBC

NBC has commissioned a local version of UK dating show First Dates, to be produced by US comedienne Ellen DeGeneres.

The US network has ordered an eight-part run of the observational documentary series that looks at a number of first dates happening in one night at the same restaurant.

The programme is based on a Twenty Twenty format that originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK.

The new hour-long series will be produced by Shed Media US, part of Warner Bros TV’s alternative department, and DeGeneres’ WBTV-based A Very Good Production.

First Dates is exec produced by Pam Healey and John Hesling for Shed Media, DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman for A Very Good Production, and Tim Carter for Twenty Twenty. Anthony Dominici is an executive producer. Production will begin in July in Chicago and no premiere date has yet been set.

Other territories to have picked it up the show include Canada, Holland, Belgium and Germany. The programme returned to Channel 4 last month for an extended 12-episode third season.
