TVI preps MasterChef’s Portugese return

L-R: Miguel Rocha Vieira, Manuel Luis Goucha, Rui Paula and Nuno Bergonse

Endemol Shine Group’s cooking competition format MasterChef will return to Portuguese television after a three-year hiatus. The new 13-episode series will air on commercial net TVI, hosted by Manuel Luis Goucha.

In the show, 15 amateur chefs face cooking challenges and battle it out to be named the country’s MasterChef. The judges are chefs Rui Paula, Miguel Rocha Vieira and Nuno Bergonse.

The format’s return in Portugal continues its recent global expansion after Discovery Latin America picked up the first two seasons of MasterChef Latino.

The format, created by Franc Roddam, launched on BBC1 in the UK in 1990 and was revived in 2005. There have been more than 60 local versions produced, airing in over 200 territories.
