Spanish broadcaster TVE has renewed Eccho Rights format The Clinic for a further 100 episodes after it improved ratings in a previously difficult slot.

The show, originally produced by Tuvalu Media but made by Zebra in Spain, where it is titled Centro Médico, is fully scripted but looks like a reality show and depicts real-life hospital stories.

The Clinic originally aired on VRM in Belgium where it pulled in record audiences for the channel. On TVE, it airs between 18.30 and 19.30.

Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights, said: “Scripted reality is a relatively new genre for Southern Europe and we believe that it will continue to grow in the region and we will see more shows like The Clinic on air. Scripted reality delivers ratings and, at the same time, it’s cost-effective.”
