TV3, STV tell The Lie

Broadcasters in Ireland and Scotland have greenlit a new gameshow format in which there are no questions.

Half-hour quiz format The Lie will be coproduced by Scotland’s STV Productions, TV3 Studios in Ireland and GroupM Entertainment, with 10 episodes going to TV3 and six to STV.

Based on an original concept by Grant Keen, the show features teams of contestants competing to spot the falsehood in lists of otherwise true statements. Comedian Susan Calman will host the Scottish version of the programme with the host of the Irish version to be announced in the coming weeks.

The series will be executive produced by Gary Chippington for STV Productions, Andrew Byrne for TV3 Studios and Abigail Adams and Richard Foster for GroupM.

The commission continues the in-house production drive of Jeff Ford, TV3 group director of content, who joined the Irish net this year and has since commissioned magic-based series Keith Barry: Brain Hacker (6×60’) and quiz Pressure Point (20×30′).

Regarding The Lie, Ford added: “This is TV3 Studios’ first coproduction and first venture into big shiny floor studio quiz shows. The format of The Lie is fast paced and addictive – a show we hope resonates with viewers not just in Scotland and Ireland but potentially worldwide.”

The show also builds STV Productions’ credentials in the entertainment genre. The prodco currently makes for Catchphrase for ITV1 and Fake Reaction for ITV2.

The Lie will air on STV and TV3 next year.
