TV Azteca, Globosat pick Drive factual

Back2Back produced World’s Deadliest Weather for BBC Earth

Broadcasters in Latin America, including TV Azteca, Globosat, Canal 22 and Hola TV, have acquired over 85 hours of premium factual content from UK distributor Drive.

The deals, which come as Natpe Miami kicks off today, will see The World’s Deadliest Weather (26×60′), produced by UK-based Back2Back Productions for BBC Earth, air on TV Azteca in Mexico, National Geographic Channel in Brazil and Willax Television in Peru.

In Brazil, Globosat has acquired two one-off, 60-minute documentaries – Growing Up Gay and The Hunt for Ted Bundy – for its broadcast group. The shows were produced by Antidode Productions for BBC3 in the UK and UK-based October Films for Discovery ID in the US respectively.

In Mexico, public broadcaster Canal 22 has picked up Titanic: The New Evidence (1×60′), from Blink Films for Channel 5 in the UK, as well as Cocaine: Living with the Cartels (3×60′), from Alaska TV, also for Channel 5.

In addition, Latin American lifestyle and entertainment network Hola TV has taken fashion documentaries Dressing the Part (1×60′), produced by fashion retailer Net A Porter, and How to Dress Like a Princess (1x 60′), produced by Spun Gold for True Royalty.

All the deals were brokered by Drive’s Latin American and Spanish agent, David Albareda, at Devised.

Ben Barrett, Drive’s co-MD, will be at Natpe Miami this week with Drive’s latest slate of projects for coproduction as well as finished programming such as Telegramme Media’s 2×60′ doc Tata: Escobar’s Widow.
