Turner surfs on Monster Beach

MIPJUNIOR: Turner Asia Pacific has greenlit an original series from an Australian production company that will also air across EMEA and Latin America.

Monster Beach: washing up at Turner

Monster Beach (52×11′) will air on Turner International channels including Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Pogo and Boing in 2019.

The series follows two inseparable siblings, one a cheeky prankster with an appetite for fun and the other a self-appointed leader with a sense of adventure as they live in a world of surfing, hot-rods and monsters.

Turner Asia Pacific and Melbourne-based BES Animation has begun pre-production on the series, which comes after Cartoon Network Australia greenlit a special based on the IP in 2015.

The show has been created by BES Animation’s Patrick Crawley, Bruce Kane and Maurice Argiro.

Mark Eyers, Turner’s chief content officer, kids networks, Asia Pacific, said: “We’ve assembled a great team based in Hong Kong and Australia, who have been set a task to create a very funny, very colourful show with mass, global appeal.”

Patricia Hidalgo, chief content officer, Turner EMEA and international kids strategy, added: “The greenlight of Monster Beach is a great example of our approach to kids content development across international. Loveable stories and characters can come from all corners of the world, and we have made it our mission to seek out talent and IPs that we can nurture and grow.”

The commission follows Pogo, Turner’s kids brand in South Asia, recently producing a series in India called Tik Tak Tail, about a cute rabbit and a ferocious tiger whose tail has a mind of its own.
