Turner relaunches Boomerang

MIPCOM: Turner Broadcasting is relaunching its Boomerang network as an all-animation, youth-skewing channel with a line-up specifically designed for family co-viewing.

The schedule of the new-look channel will continue to be anchored by classic toons from the likes of Warner Bros, Hanna-Barbera, its sister channel Cartoon Network and MGM. Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo will all feature.

However, these will now run alongside a slate of newly acquired and commissioned contemporary series from studios around the world. It will be the first time Turner has offered exclusive original content on the network across its 13 international feeds.

The roll-out of the new look channel, which will also sell advertising for the first time, will begin between now and the end of the year with the first launch in Latin America already completed and the Australian version set to kick off on November 3.

Further launches in the US, EMEA and Asia-Pacific will come in early 2015.

The announcement was jointly made by Turner Broadcasting System International president Gerhard Zeiler, and president and general manager of Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang Christina Miller.
