Turner launches gaming streamer

International broadcast group Turner is launching a cloud-based game-streaming service in Latin America.

Turner International’s Digital Ventures and Innovation team is initially rolling out Gloud in Argentina and Chile, with plans for further Latin American launches to follow.

The service allows people to play console-quality video games via streaming and on-demand without the need for expensive consoles or large file downloads.

Gloud users will require a minimum internet connection speed of 8Mbps, and the service will also be available via smart TVs.

Subscriptions start at US$10 a month plus tax and users will be required to download an app through which they can access the library of games.

The service is similar to Sony’s PlayStation Now, which at US$19.99 per month offers a cloud-based streaming service for original PlayStation 3 and 4 titles.

The catalogue of games includes a number of titles from major publishers such as Mad Max, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Batman: Arkham City.

Gloud follows Turner EMEA and HBO Nordic’s recent launch of Toonix, a kids’ and family OTT service in the Nordic region, continuing its push to provide accessible on-demand content.
