Turner, Mediapro score football drama

Turner Latin America and Spanish media giant Mediapro have revealed the first project from their nascent five-year multiplatform development and coproduction deal, on the eve of the Natpe Miami market.

Scripted series Las Bravas FC centres on a female football team that dreams of winning the regional championship and the reluctant, egotistical former Mexican star player who is pushed into being its coach after losing a bet.

The 8×45’ drama is based on an original idea by actor Enrique Domingo Pérez Vergara, more commonly known as ‘Flipy’, who is part of the writing team alongside José Javier Reguilón (Vis a Vis, Chiringuito de Pepe), Luis Gamboa (Diablero, Ingobernable) and Paula Rendón (Julia VS. Julia, Impresentables).

Commenting on the pact, Laura Fernández Espeso, head of international content at Mediapro, described Turner as a “very important strategic partner.”

“Turner’s expertise and professionalism in the field of content has made for a very interesting development process when working on Las Bravas. The series was originally created by Spanish talent, which shows that the synergies established between our offices in Europe and Latin America are producing great results,” she said.

Tomás Yankelevich, executive VP and chief content officer for general entertainment at Turner Latin America, added: “We trust that this new story – where the world of football is seen from a female perspective – will continue to fill our multiple screens with original content that our various audiences will find relevant.”
