Turner agrees Singapore toon pact

Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) has signed a first-look deal with the Singaporean animation company behind Milly Molly and Nanoboy (pictured).

TBS Asia Pacific’s multi-year deal with Scrawl Studios gives it first refusal on the toon shop’s original productions for broadcast on Cartoon Network across the Asia Pacific region.

“Singapore is fast emerging as a leading creative centre for the animation industry,” said Vishnu Athreya, executive director, programming acquisitions and development at TBS Asia Pacific. “We’ll take a multi-platform approach to content development, utilising our expertise in licensing and merchandise, interactive and mobile as well as syndication.”

Scrawl, backed by Singapore’s Media Development Authority, has previously teamed up with Taiwanese outfit Coolframes Digiworks, Australia’s Zac Toons and Canada’s CarpeDiem Film & TV on various toon copros.

“We are confident the collaboration shall enable us to create and jointly exploit transmedia properties that will resonate with kids everywhere,” said Seng Choon Meng, CEO of Scrawl.
