Turkey’s Fox TV to do The Split

The UK version of The Split is set for a third run

Fox TV in Turkey has commissioned a local version of BBC Studios drama format The Split, to be produced by local outfit MF Yapim.

The show originally aired on BBC1 in the UK, coproduced with Sundance TV in the US, and was greenlit for a third season recently.

The drama is set in the world of high-end divorce courts and is written by Abi Morgan (River, Suffragette, The Hour) and produced by Sister, the company behind HBO and Sky break-out hit Chernobyl.

The series will now be adapted for free-to-air channel Fox TV by Turkish production company MF Yapim, part of the Medyapim group. Production will start this summer.

Turkey is the second market to license the format after Korean broadcaster JTBC picked up the rights in 2020. The Turkish adaption of The Split follows the licensing of another BBC Studios format into the territory, Doctor Foster, which was produced by Medyapim and aired on Kanal D in 2020.

The agreement with MF Yapim was brokered by Tommaso Muffato, format sales exec for BBC Studios.

The deal was one of several announced by the commercial and production arm of the UK pubcaster as part of the online version of its annual Showcase event in Liverpool this week.

In unscripted formats, Junior Bake Off, the kids’ version of the breakout Great British Bake Off format, has been picked up by NPO3-owned channel Zapp in the Netherlands, SBS in Belgium and DR in Denmark.

DR has renewed its version of the adult show for a 10th season, as has TV4 in Sweden, while a new adaptation premiered recently in Morocco on FTA broadcaster 2M.
