TRX taps Zee programming

India-based Zee Global Content Hub has joined the growing roster of companies signing up to online TV rights portal The RightsXchange (TRX).

The content and sales arm of Indian broadcaster Zee will place more than 1,000 hours of its programming on the service, including dramas such as Kumkum Bhayga and Razia.

4K factual blue-chip documentary The Life of Earth From Space, produced by US-based Talesmith for the Smithsonian Channel and Zee, will also be added.

The portal, which was devised by brothers Matthew and David Frank in 2015, enables rights deals to be completed online and allows distributors to reach buyers in new international markets. They, in turn, get access to rights that would otherwise have been difficult to secure.

Late last month, France’s StudioCanal added its entire offering to the service, joining companies such as UK factual distributor TCB Media Rights, US giant Lionsgate, BBC Studios and All3Media.

TRX now claims to have over 70,000 hours of content available and says it is adding 10 to 12 new buyers every week. The company has secured funding in excess of US$15m from investors including Sky Ventures and the Channel 4 Growth Fund.
