Travel Channel explores pilots

Scripps Networks Interactive-owned Travel Channel has greenlit eight new pilots from the likes of Eyeworks, Nutopia and My Tupelo Entertainment.

The cablenet’s new development slate includes series that travel to Alaska, Israel and Russia, as well as topics such as ancestry, capitalism and luxury travel.

Programming set to be fronted by seasoned explorers with a penchant for discovery include Breaking Borders (working title) from My Tupelo Entertainment, Nigel’s Last Resort (wt) from M2 Pictures and Watt’s World (wt) from Lincoln Square Productions.

Meanwhile, shows that focus on adventure and the exploration of subcultures include Guiding Alaska (wt) from Orion Entertainment, Metropolis (wt) from Nutopia and Only In… (wt) from PSG Films.

The development slate is rounded out with a pilot called Adventure Capitalists (wt), from Eyeworks USA, which examines the business of travel, while Find My Past (wt) uncovers personal connections to history’s most extraordinary events.

Scripps revealed the plans for the channel at its upfront presentation to advertisers in in New York this week.
