Topic falls for An Ordinary Woman

Canadian drama Happily Married follows two couples in 1974

New North American streaming service Topic has picked up a trio of foreign dramas from UK-based distributor Cineflix Rights, including the first two seasons of Russian series An Ordinary Woman.

The deal also includes Icelandic political thriller The Minister and dark Canadian comedy Happily Married.

An Ordinary Woman (17×60’), made by 1-2-3 Production and Look Film, is the story of a woman living a seemingly ordinary life in Moscow but whose secret career running a network of prostitutes is threatened by the death of one of the girls.

The Minister (8×60’) is produced by Sagafilm for RUV Iceland, Denmark’s DR, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden and Finland’s YLE. It stars Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Trapped) as a populist prime minister whose worsening mental health condition threatens the stability of his government.

Happily Married (10×60’), from Productions Casablanca for Radio-Canada and Tou.tv-Extra, is set in 1974 and tells the story of two couples in crisis who have been let down by love, friendships and family.

The deal with Topic was brokered by Topic’s VP of acquisitions Jennifer Liang and Cineflix Rights’ senior VP of sales for North America and German-speaking territories Lucinda Gergley-Garner.
